Ready to eat turkey

We started the day by participating in the Columbus Turkey Trot 5-mile walk with Katie, Trevor & Laurel.

We were the last walkers across the starting line. Apparently such honor comes with a police escort!

Grant decided to sleep during the walk, but fortunately woke up for the last mile. He was very excited to check out his Turkey Trot finishers medal.

Grant’s first punkin, as you can see Grant’s smile had an impact on the pumpkin design.

Whoa, whoa. Dad, I saw you just open this guy up and scoop out his insides and he’s still smiling?

Since autumn is both Sarah and my favorite season, we have enjoyed taking Grant along with us to enjoy some of our fall traditions.  Pumpkin patches, walking in the leaves, caramel apples (none for Grant yet) and other fun activities.

We’re looking forward to Halloween, although I’m not going to tell what costume we already have for Grant, you’ll just have to check back in

At daycare Grant got his first school photo, and it came out great, and in true Grant style there is a bit of drool visible.  Oh well, plenty more years to get some more school photos to have fun with (as daddy also had some pretty goofy school photos).

What frost warning?

We’ve had several people stop by and visit; including a few Grandmas, Great-Grandparents, Great-Aunts, and a Great-Cousin.

Grant continues to improve on his sitting and will even stand (assisted) for a while.  I’m not quite ready for him to toddle around the house yet (nor are the cats), but I know it’s not terribly far off.  Grant has even tried a few servings of rice cereal, however he’s still not quite sure on that one.

What is this? Where is the bottle?

Now I hear some stirring in the nursery, so time to go.  I’ll post something else by the end of the week about Pelotonia, a big thank you to those who donated!

At least with the hot summer it means the pool is open and Grant has shown that he does like to take a dip.

Last week we had a very strong wind storm move through the area and took power out at Aunt Katie and Uncle Trevor’s house.  Luckily we still had power so for the weekend the little cousins got together until power was restored.

I just returned back to work (part-time), as Grant began his first week of daycare. We both made it through the week with flying stars. Grant has become something of a celebrity – apparently he is a very mellow and chill guy, and everyone loves to hold him. I’ll admit that there were a few times during the week when I had to look at his picture, but overall I was very excited to be returning to work. Not only do I enjoy my job and coworkers, but returning to work has added a bit of normalcy back into my life.

Grant continues to grow big and strong. At his two month check-up, he was in the 75% percentile for both height and weight. We are formulating a plan to save for future grocery shopping trips, when he starts eating us out of house and home.

The cats continue to act indifferent to Grants’ presence, although they have rubbed their heads against his feet once or twice. We’re incredibly fortunate that our cats have decided to abstain from scratching up furniture or peeing on carpets.

Grant met his Grandma and Grandpa Paulson, as well as Great Grandma and Grandpa Harris this past weekend.

Finally, a word of thanks to the Badger Family for Grant’s cool foot wear. Grant loves his baby Puma sneakers. Fortunately they are still a little big, so he’ll get some wear out of them. Thanks!

Grant also got his first bath in the tub after his cord fell off, and even Sake helped out.  She surprised Sarah in the bathroom by going all billy-goat and hopping onto Sarah’s back while Sarah was bathing Grant.  And of course instead of me removing the cat I grabbed the camera

We also picked up Grandpa Miller from the airport and he has been won over by Grant’s charm.

The night before we met Grant, Pauly and I sat outside sharing ice cream at Graeter’s. It was a beautiful, clear night with Jupiter and Venus shining brightly. We enjoyed some quiet moments together and tried to imagine how our life would change after having the baby.

One week later we were in the thick of diaper changes, 2 am feedings and coming to terms with the huge responsibility we had undertaken. There was and continues to be a lot of uncertainty about everything, but the reward is well worth the worry.

Grant and Daddy - one week ago

Today, at 1:38pm we hit the two week anniversary of meeting Grant. We introduced him to work colleagues at our offices. As expected, he was well received by our friends and co-workers. Who can resist those sweet chubby cheeks?

It is amazing how two weeks can go by so slowly and yet so fast. Even the cats are happy to be near our sweet boy.
